In 2014, we had the privilege of working with the Fauquier Free Clinic to design their new space. The Free Clinic serves the Fauquier and Rappahannock communities by providing comprehensive medical, dental and mental health care to eligible residents independent of their ability to pay. Staffed entirely by volunteer doctors, nurses, other medical professionals (who volunteer on their days off and after hours) and dedicated members of the community, the Free Clinic provides visits to over 2500 patients each year. Moving out of a cramped and outdated building into 2 floors of a newly constructed space in a Professional office complex with other medical practices allowed the opening of a Dental Clinic as well as expanded Mental Health Services. Executive Director, Rob Marino, had a vision of a place where patients could be treated in a facility with the same aesthetics as any other medical practice. Using decorative light fixtures and accent walls as wayfinding tools, we tried to make the facility easy for patients to navigate to reception, clinical areas and the pharmacy. Our team also selected all finishes, furniture, fabrics and consulted on signage. Visit www.fauquierfreeclinic.org for more information about this worthwhile organization.
